Get Involved

There are several programs currently active in Houston. Each program will have occasional planning meetings and email updates as needed, in addition to the various ministry activities involved in that program. You can also help us develop our future programs that we hope to implement over the next year. There are further opportunities to get involved on our national site by clicking the button below.

The Christian Prison Ministry of Houston is a Texas non-profit corporation

Commit to Pray

By grace we have been given the gift of prayer. In the Divine Liturgy we pray for those held captive, both physically and spiritually. Orthodox Christians of all ages can minister to those in prison by praying for them daily and even praying for them by name, specifically for those to whom OCPM has been ministering in Texas. This ministry of prayer can truly transform his or her life through the power of the Holy Spirit.

If you have connections with: the correctional facilities; a person in prison or formerly in prison or with their families; other prison ministries; support services (job, housing, counseling); financial resources; or other connections that could benefit the ministry, please let us know.

Texas Department of Criminal Justice offers training for those who wish to volunteer with various prison programs determined by TDCJ to aid in the transition between confinement and society and to reduce incidence of recidivism.

Funds are greatly needed in order to facilitate local OCPM programs in Houston as well as national programs. Your financial support enables OCPM to provide Orthodox reading materials, clergy and laity training, full-time chaplains and interns and assistance to families of those in prison.

If you have other ways that you wish to contribute to OCPM, please let us know. This ministry will be shaped by the gifts and talents of the local parishioners. There are so many ways that we can serve others through our unique God-given gifts.

What if every Orthodox parish came together to serve those in the prisons and jails of our own communities?

To be able to most effectively and sustainably serve the more than 1.8 million people in prison across the U.S, OCPM needs the support and involvement of our church partners. Having parish-based prison ministries allows the Orthodox Church to have a truly national reach.

There are many ways your church can be involved in the work of OCPM.
